According to ‘Brighton Business’, the people of Brighton and Hove are getting younger, while Sussex is getting older.
The latest Government population trends figures show a marked difference between the projected population of the city compared to its neighbours over the next 20 years.
Most areas of Sussex already have large numbers of elderly people [65+] and this is likely to increase markedly in the county but only marginally in Brighton & Hove.
The increase in the elderly is expected to put additional pressures on the NHS and social services, and create increased demand for care services.
The younger population in Brighton & Hove also has its challenges in terms of job creation and affordable housing.
